REST Web Service Supported HTTP Methods

There are five HTTP methods supported by REST Web Services.
1. GET : The same request URL should return the same resource every time. The request URL should represent a web resource.Requests a resource at the request URL

  • Should not contain a request body, as it will be discarded.
  • May be cached locally or on the server.
  • May produce a resource, but should not modify on it.

2. POST :  Submits information to the service for processing. Should typically return the new or modified resource.The web service may respond with data or status indicating success or failure.
3. PUT :  Add a new resource at the request URL
4. DELETE : Removes the resource at the request URL
5. HEAD : Returns meta information about the request URL
6. OPTIONS : Indicates which HTTP methods are supported at the request URL. Useful for identifying
